A young lady with a delicate silver cross
and deep cleavage bought "No God but God"
and "God is Not One." It was her first sale
of the day which made the coming hours
exhausting as the voices trickled in requests.
Give us something that will mean
the right thing. She wanted to send them all
to the girl with the cross. Let them offer her
their unrelenting need in exchange for
some conflict.

Later, a bulb over MEMOIRS burned out
and she was delighted to handle the hot tubular glass,
which had nothing to offer but its simple death.
