Ledger of a Shopkeep
Take a little gander the voice said.
The voice said it again. When the track
got caught on repeat 
she had to cross the room to set it straight.
"I didn't know things could even skip anymore,"
said a man in a gramophone voice.
The skipping became a fossil. 
And what she was gandering
was also some old thing with a new cover.
The bookcover was by a tattoo artist. In that way
the System got a posthumous makeover
to convey timelessness.
"We should manipulate all our old objects 
 to create something new," said the student. And the teacher
couldn't help but agree. But there was something
wistful in her nodding. The gramophone man
took notice.
